The short version
Your photographs are written to your phone and stay there. There is no account, no server and nothing to sign in to. I never see a picture you take, because there is nowhere for one to go.
Photographs live inside the app until you send them to your camera roll. That means deleting Ordinary deletes them too, the same as any other app’s documents. There is a switch in the settings that copies every photograph to your camera roll as it is taken, and it is off when you install the app.
What the app asks permission for
Three things, and each is used for what its name says.
- Camera. To take the picture. Without it there is no app.
- Photo library. Ordinary keeps everything it saves in one album called ORDINARY. Creating and filling that album is the only reason it asks for access, and iOS grants that access as one permission rather than two, so the app technically holds the right to read the rest of your library. It never does. Nothing outside its own album is opened, listed or sent anywhere.
- Location, only if you turn it on. There is a switch in the settings called Save location to photos. It is off when you install the app, and while it is off the app never asks the phone where you are. Switch it on and the place is written into the photograph’s own metadata, the same way a camera writes it. The file is still yours and still on your phone.
What is collected
Nothing. No analytics, no crash reporting of my own, no advertising identifiers, no tracking across apps or websites. The app ships with Apple’s privacy manifest declaring exactly that: no tracking and no collected data types.
Your photographs are never used to train anything.
What Apple sees
The app is free. Ordinary Plus is a one-time purchase inside it, and Apple handles it, not me. I never see your payment details, only that a sale happened. Whether you own Plus is read from your Apple account by the App Store itself; the app stores no receipt of its own and asks no server. If you have turned on sharing diagnostics with developers in your iOS settings, Apple may pass me anonymised crash reports. Apple’s own privacy policy covers all of that.
This website
No cookies, no analytics, no forms. Nothing about your visit is stored.
One thing is worth saying plainly: the typefaces on these pages are fetched from Google Fonts, so loading the page tells Google’s servers your IP address. It is the only request that leaves for anyone but this site, and it will go away when the fonts move here.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask what personal data is held about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted. In this case there is none to hold: no account, no mailing list, no analytics. So there is usually nothing to hand over or erase. Ask anyway if you want it in writing.

Children
Ordinary is not directed at children under 13, and it collects nothing from anyone of any age.
Changes
If this changes in a way that matters, the date at the top moves with it, and the previous wording stays available on request.
